According to Tufts Environmental Health and Safety, "Laboratory safety is a process and discipline, the goal of which is to prevent injuries and diseases from occurring among scientists, laboratory staff, non-laboratory staff and the community". Lab safety can include anything from safety goggles to lab coats. One must first read all instructions to a lab. If a person has any questions, they must ask the instructor. Broken glass wear or damaged equipment should never be used. Protective goggles and a lab coat must be worn at all times when dealing with chemicals, no matter how harmless they may seem. Food and drink are not allowed in the laboratory at any time, and chemicals or labs are not allowed to be consumed unless the instructor says it's okay. These rules are set up in order to protect those around you and yourself, and each of these rules is extremely important.
